Rubicon Carbon has announced an offtake agreement with Bio-Logical, a Nairobi-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) enterprise. The deal will see Rubicon Carbon acquire high-quality biochar carbon credits from Bio-Logical’s facility near Mt. Kenya, which launched in 2023. This partnership not only provides a scalable pathway for carbon removal but also underscores a shared commitment to developing sustainable, community-focused climate solutions.

Bio-Logical’s model is a prime example of a circular economy in action. The company transforms agricultural waste into carbon-dense biochar, which is then blended into a soil-revitalizing fertilizer. This product is distributed to local smallholder farming communities, directly addressing issues of soil degradation and low crop yields while also enhancing drought resilience in a region highly vulnerable to climate impacts. The project is a symbiotic system where carbon removal benefits both the global climate and local livelihoods.

The carbon credits generated by Bio-Logical are issued as Carbon Removal Certificates (CORCs) under Puro.earth’s biochar methodology, a standard widely recognized for its high integrity. Rubicon Carbon is scheduled to begin receiving these credits in 2026, marking a significant step in their strategy to offer a diverse portfolio of durable and verified carbon solutions to their clients.

The agreement supports Bio-Logical’s ambitious growth trajectory, including a recent five-acre expansion of its Mt. Kenya facility. This expansion will enable the company to support five times more farmers, accelerating its progress toward its 2030 goal of removing one million tonnes of CO2 and empowering one million farmers. The collaboration highlights how market-based mechanisms can drive positive environmental and social outcomes in tandem, creating a model that is both climate-positive and socially beneficial.
