The project addresses critical agricultural and environmental challenges within Belize, particularly the urgent need to enhance crop resiliency and reduce input costs for vital domestic industries such as sugar, citrus, and bananas. Local commercial farmers increasingly face severe operational vulnerabilities from prolonged droughts and deteriorating soil conditions that directly threaten seasonal crop yields. Furthermore, the regional ecosystem faces the ongoing burden of managing aggressive invasive plant species alongside substantial volumes of unutilized biomass that currently offer no economic utility.
To mitigate these domestic issues, DBG Energy Limited will construct a specialized facility utilizing advanced thermal conversion technology to process regional biomass feedstocks. The raw material supply will be drawn from purposeful cultivation, including the plant Arundo donax, as well as targeted invasive species extracted directly from the surrounding ecosystem. This systems-based manufacturing approach handles problematic organic matter to yield a finished product capable of retaining up to seven times its weight in water, thereby directly strengthening agricultural drought resistance.
Project development is actively underway this year, with full construction and production ramp-up targeted for completion in 2027. The project will generate significant local employment and strengthen the regional agricultural economy by providing high-efficiency soil amendments. Financially, DBG Energy Limited has already secured an export contract with the United States to monetize over 42,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent removal credits annually. This structured commercial model establishes a reliable foreign exchange stream, integrating Belize directly into the global green economy.
