Carbon dioxide removal registry Isometric has executed its first agreements in China, partnering with three project developers to provide certification services for direct air capture and biochar initiatives. Under these agreements, Isometric will certify projects managed by biochar producers Tongao Greenchar and Vastwing Energy, alongside direct air capture firm DeCarbon Tech. The initiative marks Isometric’s entry into the Chinese market, bringing third-party measurement, reporting, and verification standards to carbon removal developers operating in the region.

China faces a substantial carbon management mandate as it targets national net-zero emissions by 2060, a goal requiring an estimated three billion tonnes of annual carbon dioxide removal to offset residual industrial emissions. While China holds significant biochar potential—capable of removing an estimated 470 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year if all agricultural crop residues were utilized—domestic project developers face barriers in accessing global voluntary carbon markets. Without rigorous, internationally recognized certification protocols, high-integrity carbon removal projects struggle to prove their durability and traceably connect with international corporate buyers seeking verified carbon credits.

To bridge this gap, Isometric is deploying its AI-powered Certify platform, which pairs specialized artificial intelligence agents with human verification experts to audit every data point against strict protocols. Tongao Greenchar, a venture created by Tongao Group and Greenchar Climate Solutions, addresses biomass waste by converting responsibly sourced agricultural and forestry residues into durable biochar for traceable soil applications and fertilizers. Meanwhile, Vastwing Energy targets agricultural waste by converting discarded fruit tree branches into biochar-based fertilizer, carrying a projected production capacity of 75,000 tonnes annually. Complementing these biomass efforts, DeCarbon Tech deploys atmospheric direct air capture paired with permanent mineralization.

Through this multi-developer agreement, Chinese carbon removal operations gain the third-party verification necessary to validate their climate impact and enter international carbon markets. By combining biomass utilization from fruit tree branches and crop residues with direct air capture, the participating developers establish a standardized pathway for commercializing Chinese carbon dioxide removal credits. Isometric’s independent verification provides global buyers with transparent, data-backed assurance, accelerating the scaling of high-integrity carbon removal assets across East Asia.
