The global expansion of biochar carbon removal (BCR) faces structural barriers due to fragmented standards, varying permanence models, and limited integration into compliance offset markets. Commercial scaling requires unified validation frameworks that align local production systems with international trading systems. Without standardized permanence verification and cross-border regulatory alignment, biochar projects encounter friction accessing institutional climate finance and policy-backed offset systems.
