Supercritical, a carbon removal marketplace, and Exomad Green, the world’s largest biochar producer, have announced an expanded multi-year partnership. Under the agreement, Supercritical will secure 130,000 tonnes of biochar carbon removal (BCR), making it the exclusive distributor for Exomad Green’s 2025 spot market credits. The partnership also introduces multi-year offtake agreements, allowing buyers to secure future biochar supply at stable prices.

This deal builds on their successful 2024 collaboration, which brought new buyers into the voluntary carbon market. With rising corporate demand for high-quality carbon removals and tightening supply, structured commitments like this are becoming essential for meeting long-term net-zero goals.

Scaling biochar production has traditionally been hindered by slow procurement processes. Complex legal negotiations, lengthy due diligence, and fragmented purchasing create inefficiencies, limiting market growth. By streamlining procurement, Supercritical aims to remove these barriers, offering buyers transparent pricing, faster transactions, and simplified contracts.

Biochar remains the most scalable and cost-effective engineered carbon removal solution, capable of storing carbon for over 1,000 years. Demand is increasing rapidly—86% of global carbon removal deliveries in 2024 were biochar-based, and prices have risen 29.2% annually since 2020. With 62% of 2025 biochar supply already committed, Supercritical argues that companies that delay may face higher costs or shortages.

This partnership strengthens Supercritical’s role as a key player in the voluntary carbon market and ensures more businesses can access high-quality carbon removals.
