SoilLogia, an ag-climate-tech startup founded by Antonio Timoteo, PhD, is entering its seed funding round to raise $6,141,432. The funding will support the expansion of Reclyzer, the company’s biocharBiochar is a carbon-rich material created from biomass decomposition in low-oxygen conditions. It has important applications in environmental remediation, soil improvement, agriculture, carbon sequestration, energy storage, and sustainable materials, promoting efficiency and reducing waste in various contexts while addressing climate change challenges. More product made from sewage sludge, which enhances soil health, boosts crop productivity, and supports carbon sequestration.
The investment will primarily finance the acquisition of the BST-50 Beston pyrolysisPyrolysis is a thermochemical process that converts waste biomass into bio-char, bio-oil, and pyro-gas. It offers significant advantages in waste valorization, turning low-value materials into economically valuable resources. Its versatility allows for tailored products based on operational conditions, presenting itself as a cost-effective and efficient More system, capable of producing 15 tons of biochar per hour. The system will be housed in a new facility in Georgetown, Delaware, with sludge sourced from wastewater treatment facilities in Kent County, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Additional funds will cover land acquisition, facility construction, chemical testing equipment, operational costs, and a contingency reserve.
SoilLogia offers investment opportunities through climate credit purchases, equity stakes, or a combination of both. The company targets climate tech investors, agriculture experts, and those interested in carbon offset markets. By repurposing waste into a valuable soil amendmentA soil amendment is any material added to the soil to enhance its physical or chemical properties, improving its suitability for plant growth. Biochar is considered a soil amendment as it can improve soil structure, water retention, nutrient availability, and microbial activity. More, Reclyzer diverts CO₂ and methane emissions from traditional sewage sludge disposal methods while addressing concerns about heavy metals and contaminants.
With a commitment to sustainability and regenerative agriculture, SoilLogia aims to expand its market reach and forge strategic partnerships. Dr. Timoteo envisions a global impact, stating, “As long as people inhabit an area, this solution can work.” The startup’s approach aligns with net-zero goals and offers a scalable solution to waste management, climate change, and agricultural challenges.
