A key component of this initiative is the integration of biocharBiochar is a carbon-rich material created from biomass decomposition in low-oxygen conditions. It has important applications in environmental remediation, soil improvement, agriculture, carbon sequestration, energy storage, and sustainable materials, promoting efficiency and reducing waste in various contexts while addressing climate change challenges. More into the region’s agricultural sector. During the meeting, Maíra Colares of NetZero presented on biochar’s capacity as a soil conditioner. Produced through the pyrolysisPyrolysis is a thermochemical process that converts waste biomass into bio-char, bio-oil, and pyro-gas. It offers significant advantages in waste valorization, turning low-value materials into economically valuable resources. Its versatility allows for tailored products based on operational conditions, presenting itself as a cost-effective and efficient More of agricultural plant residues, this carbon-rich product offers a sustainable solution for improving soil health and sequestering carbon, aligning with the municipality’s decarbonization goals. The discussion highlighted the potential for biochar to bring significant improvements to local agriculture.
The project is part of a broader Innovation Ecosystem being developed in the municipality with support from the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE). This collaborative environment fosters partnerships between public and private entities.
