BluSky Carbon Inc. recently announced new biocharBiochar is a carbon-rich material created from biomass decomposition in low-oxygen conditions. It has important applications in environmental remediation, soil improvement, agriculture, carbon sequestration, energy storage, and sustainable materials, promoting efficiency and reducing waste in various contexts while addressing climate change challenges. More ventures in Tanzania and Orlando, Florida, through its BluMountain Carbon joint venture. These projects aim to leverage biochar production for carbon credit revenue, utilizing BluSky’s Vulcan pyrolysisPyrolysis is a thermochemical process that converts waste biomass into bio-char, bio-oil, and pyro-gas. It offers significant advantages in waste valorization, turning low-value materials into economically valuable resources. Its versatility allows for tailored products based on operational conditions, presenting itself as a cost-effective and efficient More technology for sustainable biomassBiomass is a complex biological organic or non-organic solid product derived from living or recently living organism and available naturally. Various types of wastes such as animal manure, waste paper, sludge and many industrial wastes are also treated as biomass because like natural biomass these More processing.
In Tanzania, BluMountain has partnered with Carbon Market Exchange Inc. (CMX) to produce biochar using locally sourced biomass. The project will focus on soil health and sustainable agriculture, aiming to generate carbon removal credits. BluMountain will hold 66.67% of the net profits, with CMX receiving the remainder, contingent on fulfilling commitments to regional partners. This initiative will support conservation and carbon offset efforts over a vast agroforestry area, aligning with CMX’s mission of developing carbon offset programs worldwide.
The Orlando project, a 50/50 joint venture with Neutralizing Environmental Trash Inc. (NET), will also use BluSky’s Vulcan pyrolysis equipment. This facility will repurpose wood waste to produce biochar and bioenergy, with a target of sequestering around 50,000 tons of carbon annually. NET’s focus on sustainable recycling and agriculture complements BluMountain’s goals, with both organizations committed to supporting local economies and environmental resilience.
BluSky CEO Will Hessert views these projects as scalable models for global carbon removal, reinforcing the value of biochar in agriculture and ecosystem restoration. BluSky intends to expand these efforts, positioning biochar as a key tool in achieving global carbon neutrality.
