Green Carbon Inc. partnered with Mitsubishi UFJ Research & Consulting Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation to hold an online seminar focusing on carbon credit mechanisms and decarbonization developments in Vietnam. The joint event provided industry stakeholders with insights into regulatory evolution, the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) framework, and practical avenues for credit generation and corporate investment.

A primary challenge facing international investors and project developers in Vietnam is navigating the evolving regulatory landscape, establishing approved JCM methodologies, and addressing the complexities of nature-based decarbonization projects. Agricultural methane emissions, particularly from rice paddies, represent a major source of greenhouse gas emissions in the region. However, scaling projects requires aligning local operational capabilities, structured regulatory compliance, and financial frameworks to convert agricultural mitigation into recognized, tradeable carbon assets.

To address these market barriers, the seminar outlined structured pathways for project creation, regulatory alignment, and financing in Vietnam. Mitsubishi UFJ Research & Consulting detailed the institutional policy framework under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and the JCM system design, while Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking provided operational perspectives on carbon transactions. Green Carbon highlighted its ongoing project development work, including nature-based credit methodologies, methane reduction initiatives, and the implementation of its proprietary platform “Agreen” to streamline project registration, documentation, and asset monetization.

The initiative aims to accelerate corporate investment and simplify the generation of high-integrity nature-based credits across Vietnam. By establishing clearer frameworks for JCM methodology approvals and project registration, the participating organizations seek to unlock potential in agricultural and nature-based carbon projects, fostering cross-border cooperation between Japanese institutions and Vietnamese regional entities.
