An agreement between Wilson Biochar, LLC and Tarter USA will scale up the production and distribution of the Ring of Fire Biochar Kiln®. The partnership aims to make this tool accessible to a wider audience, including communities and land managers across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The deal leverages Tarter USA’s manufacturing and logistics network to meet a growing demand for on-site biochar production equipment.

The Ring of Fire Biochar Kiln, invented by Kelpie Wilson, author of The Biochar Handbook, allows users to efficiently convert woody biomass into biochar in the field. Since 2020, Wilson Biochar has been manufacturing and distributing the kiln, which has been used by hundreds of farmers, foresters, and landowners across North America. The kilns are designed for efficiency and portability, with many having completed hundreds of production cycles.

Kelpie Wilson: “I am very pleased with Tarter USA’s commitment to quality and their distribution capabilities. This licensing agreement means we can now get thousands more kilns into the hands of land stewards who urgently need them. The world needs more quality tools for making biochar and this partnership represents a transformational scaling opportunity for biochar as a nature-based solution for climate mitigation, regenerative agriculture, and ecosystem restoration.”

This partnership is expected to increase the number of kilns available to land stewards who require them for various land management practices. Wilson Biochar will continue to offer consulting, training, and support services for biochar production and application. The importance of this collaboration should not be understated. By increasing distribution potential, biochar kilns become more accessible and more mainstream – something the industry has been calling out for.
