NoviqTech, through its subsidiary Coralia, has entered a strategic agreement with A Healthier Earth (AHE), a subsidiary of Pure Data Centres Group, to develop a large-scale biochar project in Australia. Located in North Queensland near the Great Barrier Reef, the project focuses on producing high-integrity carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits. Under the terms of the agreement, the partners will evaluate the construction of a production facility and conduct extensive trials to ensure compliance with international carbon registry standards. AHE intends to secure a long-term offtake for at least 70% of the carbon credits generated by the facility.

The initiative addresses the critical “supply gap” in the high-integrity carbon market, particularly as the rapid expansion of data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure drives a “supercycle” of demand for durable sequestration. For major technology firms, achieving net-zero targets requires carbon removal solutions with sequestration profiles exceeding 1,000 years. However, sourcing verified, high-quality credits at scale remains a logistical challenge. Furthermore, the regional environmental pressure on the Great Barrier Reef catchment area necessitates sustainable land management practices that can handle vast quantities of agricultural and woody waste without negative ecological runoff.

To solve these issues, the partnership leverages Coralia’s site-development capabilities and AHE’s technical expertise in biochar commercialization. The project aims to convert approximately 2 million tonnes of agricultural biomass and invasive woody weed species into an estimated 550,000 biochar CDR credits over its operational lifetime. Coralia will manage local permitting and production trials, while AHE provides the specialized machinery required for immediate operations and utilizes its established offtake networks to monetize the resulting credit stream. This integrated approach ensures that the biochar produced meets the rigorous performance assessments required by premium buyers.

The anticipated outcomes of this collaboration are significant for both the regional economy and the global carbon market. By tapping into a market where high-quality biochar credits command prices up to US$220 per tonne, the project provides a viable financial model for large-scale carbon sequestration. Beyond the financial returns, the removal of 2 million tonnes of biomass contributes to the protection of the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem by repurposing waste that might otherwise contribute to environmental degradation. This agreement positions NoviqTech and Pure Data Centres as key players in the decarbonization of digital infrastructure, providing a scalable template for future biochar-based carbon removal initiatives.
