Bolivia-based biochar producer, Exomad Green, announced plans to significantly expand its carbon removal capacity at the Puro.earth Summit during Climate Week in New York. The company aims to increase its carbon sequestration potential from 400,000 tonnes to 800,000 tonnes by 2027 through the construction of three new biochar facilities. These new plants will join Exomad’s existing operations in Concepción and Riberalta, bringing the total number of facilities to five.

The first of these new plants is set to be operational by 2026 in Guarayos, Bolivia, with the remaining two expected by 2027. This expansion will further solidify Exomad’s position as a leader in the biochar market, where it already supplies 50% of all biochar credits available for 2024.

Exomad’s “technochar,” produced from hardwood forestry residue, sequesters carbon for thousands of years while also improving soil and crop yields. The company’s mission goes beyond just hitting decarbonization targets, focusing on long-term environmental and community benefits. Local communities near Exomad’s plants, such as those in the Concepción region, benefit from cleaner air and improved agricultural productivity.

Exomad’s upcoming facilities are expected to bring similar positive impacts, continuing their strategy of contributing to sustainable growth while addressing global climate challenges.
