Bolivia-based biochar producer Exomad Green has commenced operations at its new facility in Riberalta, marking the company’s second plant after the successful launch of its Concepción site. The Riberalta facility is expected to sequester 60,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, with plans to double this capacity by 2025.

Exomad announced these developments during the Puro.earth Summit at Climate Week NYC, outlining an ambitious expansion strategy. By 2027, the company aims to reach an annual sequestration capacity of 800,000 tonnes through additional plants, including a Guarayos site slated for 2026 and two more by 2027.

Currently, Exomad Green accounts for 50% of the CO2 credits expected on the carbon removal market in 2024. The company’s efforts extend beyond emissions reduction, emphasizing community benefits. The Riberalta facility will generate green jobs and support social programs to enhance education and healthcare in the region.

Exomad also supplies biochar to local farmers, offering a sustainable soil amendment that improves crop yields while storing carbon in the soil long-term. By integrating environmental and social initiatives, Exomad is contributing to a sustainable future for both local communities and global climate goals.

This milestone underscores Exomad Green’s dual commitment to carbon removal and regional development, positioning the company as a leader in sustainable biochar production.
