BluSky Carbon Inc., through its BluMountain Carbon joint venture, has announced a new 50/50 partnership with Neutralizing Environmental Trash (NET). The collaboration aims to deploy biochar technology in the southeastern United States, using local wood waste to achieve an annual carbon removal target of 50,000 tonnes.

Under the agreement, the joint venture plans to purchase $7 million worth of Vulcan pyrolysis equipment and services from BluSky. However, this is contingent on securing project financing. The partnership includes equal ownership and dilution terms, along with audit rights for BluMountain to monitor compliance.

NET, based in Oregon, specializes in converting biomass waste into biochar, a carbon-negative soil amendment that enhances soil health and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The company’s leadership brings decades of experience in recycling and environmental sustainability.

BluMountain Carbon, a joint venture between BluSky Carbon and Red Mountain Biochar, focuses on commercializing biochar production and related carbon removal technologies. BluSky’s CEO, Will Hessert, expressed optimism about the venture, highlighting the growth in carbon credit prices, now approximately $143 per ton.

This initiative aligns with BluSky’s broader mission of converting waste into biochar, renewable energy, and carbon credits, contributing to the growing demand for carbon-neutral solutions.

The success of this partnership hinges on securing financing to operationalize the equipment and reach its carbon removal goals, underscoring the potential for further growth in the biochar and carbon credit markets.
