HUSK has announced a new partnership with atmosfair, a climate protection organization, to sequester 20,000 tonnes of carbon over the next seven years. This collaboration marks a significant step towards HUSK’s goal of assisting 10,000 farmers in transitioning to regenerative agriculture by 2030.
Atmosfair, which finances sustainable development projects globally, will provide funding for HUSK’s certified carbon removal credits. Additionally, atmosfair is offering a financing facility to enhance HUSK’s production capacity in Cambodia and establish a new facility in Vietnam.
Vietnam, a major rice producer, generates substantial quantities of rice husk waste. HUSK aims to convert this biomassBiomass is a complex biological organic or non-organic solid product derived from living or recently living organism and available naturally. Various types of wastes such as animal manure, waste paper, sludge and many industrial wastes are also treated as biomass because like natural biomass these More into biochar-based products, aligning with Vietnam’s sustainable agriculture objectives. This circular model is designed to offer both climate and social benefits.
This partnership is anticipated to facilitate the affordability of biochar-based products for smallholder farmers, who are often disproportionately affected by climate challenges. Both organizations express optimism that this initiative will serve as a model for future biocharBiochar is a carbon-rich material created from biomass decomposition in low-oxygen conditions. It has important applications in environmental remediation, soil improvement, agriculture, carbon sequestration, energy storage, and sustainable materials, promoting efficiency and reducing waste in various contexts while addressing climate change challenges.
