Exomad Green’s Riberalta facility has received a BeZero Carbon Rating of AA, signifying a very high likelihood that its carbon credits will achieve a tonne of CO2e removal. BeZero Carbon is a ratings agency that assesses the climate impact of carbon projects on an eight-point scale from AAA to D. The rating provides a transparent, third-party assessment of the project’s quality, helping to build confidence and integrity in the voluntary carbon market.

The Riberalta project is part of a broader mission by Exomad Green to expand sustainable biochar production in Bolivia. This verification from BeZero comes months after Exomad Green announced a landmark 10-year agreement with Microsoft, a deal positioned as the world’s largest biochar carbon removal (BCR) agreement to date. It’s a partnership that intends to remove 1.24 million tonnes of CO2e. By converting forestry residues—which would otherwise be burned—into biochar using a pyrolysis process, the facility not only sequesters carbon but also generates numerous co-benefits. The biochar produced is donated to local indigenous communities to improve agricultural yields by enhancing soil fertility, moisture retention, and microbial activity.

Beyond the direct environmental benefits, the project is designed to have a significant social impact. It creates green jobs, supports sustainable forestry, and improves air quality by preventing harmful emissions from traditional waste incineration. This holistic approach aligns with a vision that extends beyond carbon removal to deliver long-term value for both local communities and the environment. By scaling this model, Exomad Green aims to amplify these impacts, ensuring that each tonne of carbon removed contributes to stronger livelihoods and healthier ecosystems.
