To overcome this challenge, the partners are utilizing an innovative third tier known as distributed biochar. The credits generated through this venture are certified under Isometric’s Distributed Biochar Module v1.1, a rigorous framework mandating the use of enclosed kiln designs, standardized operating procedures, and continuous emissions monitoring through advanced technology. Operating in India, Varaha implements this structure by processing agricultural residues and Prosopis juliflora, an invasive, farmland-degrading plant species, to produce dense biochar.
The initial outcome of this partnership is the market introduction of rigorous, verified carbon removal that delivers localized socio-economic benefits at an accessible price point. Supercritical validated the project using its 118-point vetting protocol, which Varaha successfully passed despite an overall 88 percent failure rate among industry applicants. Furthermore, the initiative generates returning revenue streams distributed directly to Indian farming communities under Free, Prior, and Informed Consent protections.
