INNOVX, affiliated with Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, has partnered with French greentech company NetZero to accelerate biochar deployment in the Global South. This collaboration, announced during the Morocco-France Entrepreneurial Forum, focuses on improving agricultural sustainability and carbon capture in regions with high vulnerability to climate impacts.

The agreement aims to scale NetZero’s biochar model across African countries, where biochar’s ability to boost soil health could raise crop yields by as much as 25%. Biochar, a carbon-rich material made by heating plant residues without oxygen, enhances soil fertility, retains moisture, stabilizes acidity, and sequesters carbon for thousands of years. Recognized by the IPCC as an effective climate tool, biochar can make a critical difference in nutrient-poor, water-stressed soils.

NetZero’s approach is circular and localized, creating biochar from readily available agricultural biomass, which supports both carbon capture and local employment opportunities. Supported by global investors, NetZero’s goals include removing 5 million tons of CO₂ by 2030, with ongoing projects in Cameroon and Brazil.

For INNOVX, this partnership aligns with their mission to support sustainable agricultural practices and climate resilience, positioning the company as a key player in environmental innovation. The collaboration offers a promising path toward sustainable agriculture and environmental recovery in Africa and other regions of the Global South.
