BluSky Carbon Inc., a clean technology company in the carbon removal sector, has announced a joint venture agreement with Ikigai Carbon Corporation. The partnership aims to deploy biochar projects in Namibia, focusing on waste biomass transformation and carbon removal.

The 50/50 joint venture will combine BluSky’s Vulcan pyrolysis technology and operational expertise with Ikigai’s local partnerships and business development capabilities. Together, they plan to form Namibian entities, secure project financing, and develop biochar initiatives. The collaboration also includes rights to expand into additional environmental projects in Namibia.

Ikigai Carbon, led by entrepreneur Steen Rasmussen, has extensive experience in scaling waste-to-value businesses and carbon credit initiatives. Rasmussen emphasized the partnership’s community benefits, including job creation, profit sharing, and environmental restoration in rural Namibia. Ikigai has already been working with Omiti Biochar, a Namibian company focused on converting waste biomass into biochar and biocoal while generating high-quality biodiversity carbon removal credits.

BluSky CEO Will Hessert expresses enthusiasm for the venture, highlighting the potential for biochar production to drive economic development and improve community outcomes.

The agreement outlines a collaborative approach where BluSky will provide technology and consulting services, while Ikigai manages local stakeholder relationships and oversees operations. Together, they aim to advance Namibia’s biochar capabilities while addressing environmental and socio-economic challenges.

The finalized joint venture will hold exclusive rights to future biochar or related projects initiated by either party in Namibia.
