Charm Industrial has recently secured a significant carbon dioxide removal agreement with TD Bank Group, signaling the company’s intent to expand its operations into the Canadian market. Under this new deal, TD Bank will purchase 22,000 metric tons of carbon removal from Charm, supporting the bank’s broader climate goals and its commitment to advancing high-permanence climate solutions. This partnership marks one of the largest corporate purchases of its kind in Canada, highlighting a growing appetite for engineered carbon removal within the North American financial sector.

The primary challenge addressed by this agreement is the need to scale nascent carbon removal technologies that can provide verifiable, long-term sequestration. While traditional nature-based solutions are available, they often face risks related to permanence and measurement accuracy. Furthermore, the high initial costs and logistical hurdles of engineered removals make it difficult for startups to expand into new geographic regions without substantial offtake commitments from major corporate partners.

To solve these issues, Charm Industrial utilizes a patented process that converts agricultural and forestry residues into a stable, carbon-rich bio-oil through fast pyrolysis. Unlike biochar, which is applied to soil, this bio-oil is injected deep into geological formations—often repurposed or abandoned oil and gas wells—where it eventually solidifies and remains isolated for thousands of years. This method leverages billions of tons of CO₂ already captured by plants via photosynthesis, ensuring the carbon is permanently sequestered rather than re-released through decomposition or burning.

The outcomes of this collaboration are twofold: it provides TD Bank with high-quality, durable carbon removal credits while giving Charm Industrial the financial certainty to establish a presence in Canada. By entering this new market, Charm can begin evaluating local biomass feedstocks and existing well infrastructure, potentially creating new climate-tech jobs in rural and industrial communities. This deal further cements Charm’s position as a leader in the engineered carbon removal space, following successful deliveries and major contracts with other global institutions.
