Following a highly competitive evaluation process, 3 BiocharBiochar is a carbon-rich material created from biomass decomposition in low-oxygen conditions. It has important applications in environmental remediation, soil improvement, agriculture, carbon sequestration, energy storage, and sustainable materials, promoting efficiency and reducing waste in various contexts while addressing climate change challenges. More producers have been invited to pitch their technologies to a panel of investors at The International BiomassBiomass is a complex biological organic or non-organic solid product derived from living or recently living organism and available naturally. Various types of wastes such as animal manure, waste paper, sludge and many industrial wastes are also treated as biomass because like natural biomass these More Conference & Expo, happening March 18-20, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia,
Of the six companies invited to present at the event, three are Biochar producers. Their strong showing amidst strong competition is a testament to the growing maturity of the Biochar industry and increasing interest in the space from investors.
“We had an overwhelming amount of interest in the International Biomass Conference & Expo Pitch Day event from both startups and investors,” said Marla DeFoe, senior marketing and advertising manager for Biomass Magazine. “Selection was difficult, but I think the companies selected to pitch demonstrate the vast development and innovation happening industry wide.”
Biochar-focused companies appearing in the Pitch Day include:
- ONYM utilizes advanced pyrolysisPyrolysis is a thermochemical process that converts waste biomass into bio-char, bio-oil, and pyro-gas. It offers significant advantages in waste valorization, turning low-value materials into economically valuable resources. Its versatility allows for tailored products based on operational conditions, presenting itself as a cost-effective and efficient More to produce biochar, along with dry pyrolysis oil, wood vinegar, and non-condensable gases. Their proprietary technology reduces capital and operational costs, with plans to scale up to ten commercial plants by 2035.
- American BioCarbon is developing one of the largest biochar facilities in the U.S., set to open in 2026. Their Louisiana-based plant will focus on carbon removal and renewable energy, turning agricultural waste into valuable bioproducts.
- Red Mountain Biochar transforms sawdust and wood chips into biochar, biocoal, and carbon black. Their process helps repurpose biomass residuals that would otherwise go to waste.
Biochar production is gaining momentum as a key strategy for carbon sequestration, soil improvement, and waste reduction. With increasing demand for sustainable solutions, these companies are positioned to make a significant impact.
The International Biomass Conference & Expo continues to be a leading platform for innovation, connecting industry leaders with investment opportunities.
